Seiji Ozawa Music Academy Orchestra
Seiji Ozawa Music Academy Orchestra The orchestra was formed originally for the June 2000 Seiji Ozawa Music Academy Opera Project by then-president Kenichiro Sato of ROHM Co., Ltd. and Seiji Ozawa, with the objective of fostering young musicians through opera. Young, talented musicians chosen through auditions in Japan, as well as in other Asian countries including China, Taiwan, and Korea, study with the Saito Kinen Orchestra members and other professional musicians in whom Seiji Ozawa has placed immense trust, and the results are presented in opera and orchestra performances. The program has shown steady success, with many members flourishing as soloists, concertmasters and principal instrumentalists in Japan and abroad. |
Concerts intended for Nagano Prefecture elementary school sixth grade students, delivered by Seiji Ozawa Music Academy Orchestra.
In 2025, about 8,000 students from 177 schools will join the concerts in Matsumoto, Ina, and Nagano City.

The 2024–25 season marks Music Director Carl St.Clair’s 35th year leading Pacific Symphony. From 2008–10, he was Komische Oper general music director. He also was general music director and chief conductor of Deutsches Nationaltheater & Staatskapelle Weimar. In 2024, following 27 years with Sinfonieorchester Wuppertal, he was named Honorary Guest Conductor for Life. In 2023, he concluded his tenure as music director of the National Symphony Orchestra (Costa Rica). He has led the BSO—where he was assistant conductor to Maestro Ozawa, NY Philharmonic, Philadelphia Orchestra, LA Philharmonic, and the San Francisco, Seattle, Detroit, Atlanta, Houston, Indianapolis, Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver symphonies.
